Router Family

Post by echelon »

Hello

Router family is a nice feature to combine more than one router in a so called family.
Currently only feature of this function is to show others these routers are in control of the same person/group.
Future use cases are ideas about routing, but no proposal has been made ready yet.

To configure this, visit http://127.0.0.1:7657/configfamily and type in a name of the new family, click on create family.
After a router restart, visit the same side, export the secret family key and import this secret key on the others routers which should be in the same family.

Would be nice to see this implemented as load-balancing for static websites.
Example: Upload static website to one router and they propagate over the family routers.

Hi

automatic content distribution is a nice idea, but router family is on a different level of network topology :-)

Depending on the setup of a router family, a rsync job can do this task already. although with multihoming you still have the content 3-way-merge issue and other small hickups.

So, nice idea, but not really expected to be included in near and further future.

I figured it would be more like a plugin instead of an actual feature.
I wish I knew more Java to be able to implement this.
